Free Baby Shower Games

The very best free baby shower games!

If you are almost over your baby shower budget you may want to consider playing some of these free baby shower games.

Please do not neglect the game aspect of your shower if you cannot afford to buy the necessary supplies.  Rather choose a couple of theses free games.  Some of the most fun I have ever had at a baby shower was while playing one of the following games.  You do not need to be extravagant to throw a fun baby shower, just a little creative.

What Mom Said the Night Baby Was Conceived

This one is a game, or trick, that you can play on mom.  It is best to play it when the shower guests are mostly friends (this one could be embarrassing for mom to play in front of her mother-in-law).  Take note of her comments as she is opening her gifts, make sure you write everything down that she says, most likely it’ll be things like “Oh, thank-you this is wonderful” or “Wow, this is nice.”  After she is finished opening the gifts announce to everyone that you somehow got your paws on the comments that she made the night baby was conceived.  Read the comments out loud, and have a blast watching everyone laugh hysterically!

Don’t say Baby!

This free game is quite challenging, especially when you are celebrating the arrival of a new baby.  Inform the guests upon arrival that they are not allowed to say the word baby and hand them a clothes pin to put in a visible place.  If they do say the word baby and someone calls them on it, the person who catches him or her is entitled to their clothes pin.  The winner of this game is the person with the most clothes pins at the end of the shower.

Who is Mommy?

This is a nice game to play.  Have everyone write the mother’s name vertically down the side of a peace of paper.  Ask them to write a word that either describes her, or a memory that they share.  The tricky part is… that each word has to start with a letter in her name.  They must come up with a word for each letter.  For example, if the mother’s name is Jan someone could write:

J           Jolly

A          Admirable

N          Nice

After everyone has completed their list, go around the circle and have everyone start off by saying how they know the mother, and then reading their list of words.  There is no explanation required, but if people want to give an explanation they can.  This is a nice game to play if you want mom to feel special.

Who Knows Mommy Best

This free game only works if the shower is not a surprise.  Before the shower ask the mother or mother-to-be a number of personal questions about herself, her childhood, her likes and dislikes, etc.. Once the guests arrive divide them into two teams.  Ask both teams a question and give them one minute to discuss and come up with an answer.  They should write the answer on a sheet of paper and both teams should reveal their answers at the same time.  Keep track of the number of times each team gets the answer correct.  The winning team will have gotten the answer correct the most number of times.

Who is Baby?

Have each guest write a short paragraph describing who the baby will be once he or she has reached the age of 20, and then who he or she will be at the age of 40.  If the baby is not born yet have them predict the baby’s gender, along with what the baby will look like and what he or she will be doing once he or she has reached these life stages.  The winner is the person the mother chooses.  Her decision can be based on how close the contender’s prediction of the baby is to her prediction, or it can be based on the amount of thoughtfulness and creativity that was put into the answer.

Star Search

This free game will really get the party started.  This game is best when played within a group of friends that are relatively close, newly introduced acquaintances may feel intimidated or shy.  Have each guest perform their “star search” version of their favourite children’s song, or Walt Disney song.  Reward all players at the end, or reward different players for different categories.  But make sure everyone who took part in this game is rewarded.

Brand Test

Make a list of baby necessity brand names such as Evenflow, Zincofax, Huggies, and Similac.  Ask game contestants to write down what the type of baby necessity that corresponds to that brand name.  It isn’t too hard to come up with a list, just take a pen and paper with you next time you make a trip to a local grocery store or department store and make a list of items.  Don’t forget to write down the answers!

Fairy Tale Charades

In preparation for this free game write out a number of different fairy tales, Walt Disney movie titles, and nursery rhyme themes on small pieces of paper.  Fold them up and put them into a brown paper bag.  You will need to make sure you have a watch for timing each team and a pad of paper and a pen in order to keep score.  Divide the guests into two teams.  A player from the first team draws a slip of paper and after he/she has had time to review the slip, the timekeeper tells the player to start.  That player has to act out what he/she has drawn and the team has three minutes to guess the phrase.  If they figure it out, they get a point.

The second team proceeds as above.  Normally the game continues until every player has had a turn acting out a phrase.  The team with the most points at after each team member has taken a turn wins.

What’s in Baby’s Diaper Bag?

This free game is fun to play at the beginning of the baby shower.  Have all of the guests write down everything that they think is in the baby’s diaper bag.  After everyone is finished their lists ask mom to reveal the actual contents of the diaper bag and ask everyone to check off the number of correct items that they have listed.  The winner is the player who had the largest number of correct items listed.
